The 330180-51-05 is a specific model of the 3300 XL Proximitor, the core electronic unit within the Baker Hughes Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System. It represents a complete, high-performance solution for precise and reliable displacement and vibration measurement, designed specifically for monitoring rotating machinery in demanding industrial environments.

The 3300 XL 8 mm system embodies Bently Nevada's advanced technology in eddy current proximity sensing. The system generates a linear output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface, enabling simultaneous measurement of both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) parameters. Its primary applications include vibration and position monitoring on fluid-film bearing machines (such as steam turbines, compressors, gas turbines, pumps, and motors), as well as Keyphasor reference and speed measurements.

The model number 330180-51-05 specifically denotes a 3300 XL Proximitor configured for a total system length of 5 meters, featuring a DIN-rail mounting style, and certified with CSA, ATEX, and IECEx approvals for use in internationally recognized hazardous areas. When combined with a standard 3300 XL 8 mm probe and extension cable, it forms a complete transducer system. The standard 5-meter system fully complies with the stringent requirements of the American Petroleum Institute (API) 670 Standard for mechanical configuration, linear range, accuracy, and temperature stability.

2. Specific Configuration and Features of 330180-51-05

According to the datasheet ordering information, the model code is broken down as follows:

  • 330180: Designates the 3300 XL Proximitor.

  • -51: Designates the total length and mounting option. The "5" indicates a total system length of 5.0 meters (16.4 feet), and the "1" indicates a DIN-rail mounting configuration.

  • -05: Designates the agency approval option, signifying that this Proximitor is certified for CSA (Canadian Standards Association), ATEX (EU ATmosphere EXplosible directive), and IECEx (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to Standards Relating to Equipment for Use in Explosive Atmospheres) for use in corresponding hazardous areas.

Key Features:

  1. Advanced Performance & Full Interchangeability: All 3300 XL 8 mm system components (probe, extension cable, proximitor) are factory-calibrated to allow complete interchangeability without the need for field matching or bench calibration, greatly simplifying inventory management and maintenance.

  2. Backward Compatibility: The 3300 XL 8 mm components (including this Proximitor) are both electrically and mechanically interchangeable with legacy non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm components, protecting existing customer investments. When mixed with older components, system performance will be limited to the specifications of the non-XL 3300 series.

  3. Enhanced RFI/EMI Immunity: The redesigned 3300 XL Proximitor is highly immune to radio frequency interference, allowing installation in fiberglass housings without the need for special shielded conduit or metallic enclosures. This meets European CE marking requirements while reducing installation cost and complexity.

  4. Convenient Installation & Connection:

    • SpringLoc Terminal Strips: Require no special tools, providing faster, more robust field wiring connections by eliminating screw-type clamping mechanisms that can loosen.

    • ClickLoc Connectors: Feature corrosion-resistant, gold-plated contacts. They require only finger-tightening (a "click" confirms locking), and a specially engineered locking mechanism prevents loosening. No tools are needed for installation or removal.

    • Flexible Mounting: The -51 model supports high-density DIN-rail mounting, saving control cabinet space. Its design is also compatible with the traditional 4-hole panel-mount configuration (sharing the same footprint as older Proximitors). When used with the 4-hole mounting base, it provides electrical isolation without requiring separate isolator plates.

  5. Hazardous Area Certifications: The -05 approval option enables its use in certified hazardous areas (e.g., Class I, Division 2 / Zone 2, etc.). Installation must follow the relevant drawings referenced in the manual (e.g., 140979).

  6. Extended Temperature Range Capability: While standard components have a wide operating temperature range, for extreme applications where probe or cable temperatures may exceed the standard 177°C limit, dedicated Extended Temperature Range (ETR) probes and cables can be used, rated up to 260°C.

3. Application Advantages and Selection Guide

Application Advantages:

  • High Reliability: Robust probe design (TipLoc, CableLoc patents), excellent interference immunity, and wide operating temperature range ensure long-term stability in harsh industrial environments.

  • Easy Maintenance: Fully interchangeable components eliminate recalibration needs, reducing downtime. SpringLoc and ClickLoc designs enable quick and simple installation, wiring, and maintenance.

  • Installation Flexibility: DIN-rail and panel-mount options adapt to various cabinet layouts. Optional FluidLoc cable prevents oil ingress along the cable interior.

  • Global Compliance: Meets multiple international standards and certifications (API 670, ATEX, IECEx, CSA), making it suitable for critical rotating machinery monitoring projects worldwide.

Selection and Ordering Notes:

  1. System Configuration: The 330180-51-05 is a Proximitor for a 5-meter system. It must be paired with appropriate lengths of a 3300 XL 8 mm probe and extension cable such that: Probe Length + Extension Cable Length = 5 meters. For example, a 1m probe with a 4m cable, or a 0.5m probe with a 4.5m cable.

  2. Probe Selection: Choose the specific probe model based on mounting space (thread size: 3/8-24 UNF or M10x1; smooth case requires clamp), ambient temperature (Standard or ETR), and need for oil leakage prevention (FluidLoc) or armor protection.

  3. Extension Cable Selection: Select based on required length, temperature, and need for armor or connector protectors.

  4. Certification Requirements: The 330180-51-05 includes CSA/ATEX/IECEx approvals. If the final system is for hazardous areas, ensure all components (probe, cable) also carry the necessary approvals, and install strictly per certified drawings.

  5. Installation Accessories: The use of connector protectors or silicone self-fusing tape (not recommended for contact with turbine oil) is recommended for all connections. Mounting brackets, test plugs, housings, and other accessories are available for order.

The following specifications are based on a system consisting solely of 3300 XL 8 mm components (probe, extension cable, proximitor) under specified conditions. When using the 330180-51-05 Proximitor, it must be paired with a probe and extension cable of appropriate lengths to achieve a total system length of 5 meters.
