This product consists of the CI858 communication interface unit and the TP858 baseplate, specifically used to achieve high-speed, reliable data communication between the controller and ABB drive equipment. As a key component of the AC 800M controller within the 800xA system and Compact Product Suite, the CI858K01 plays a crucial bridging role in industrial automation, process control, and drive integration, ensuring drive devices can seamlessly connect to the control system network for precise motion control, status monitoring, and fault diagnosis.


The CI858K01 features a modular design for easy installation. It is mounted on a standard DIN rail and receives power directly from the processor unit via the CEX bus, eliminating the need for an external power source, thereby significantly simplifying system integration complexity and wiring costs. Its core function is to stably transmit control commands, status feedback, and parameter configuration data at a high speed of 4 Mbit/s through fiber optic communication interfaces, making it suitable for industrial environments demanding high real-time performance and interference immunity.



2. Product Composition and Structure

The CI858K01 package includes the following two core components:

  1. CI858 Communication Interface Unit

    • Integrates all communication processing electronics, including CEX bus logic, communication processor, and DC/DC power conversion circuitry.

    • Provides three fiber optic transceiver interfaces for DriveBus, I/O Bus, and PC Tools connections respectively.

    • The front panel is equipped with multi-status LED indicators for real-time display of operation, fault, and data transmission status.

    • Connects to the AC 800M processor unit via the CEX bus and receives its +24V DC operating power.

  2. TP858 Baseplate (Mounting Plate)

    • Used to secure the CI858 unit and mount it on a standard DIN rail.

    • Features a built-in "two-letter code lock" mechanism. A pre-set alphabetical code ensures only compatible communication units can be installed, preventing hardware configuration errors.

    • Provides mechanical support and electrical connection interfaces, ensuring secure module installation and reliable contact.

    • PC Tools Interface: Supports firmware download, parameter configuration, and diagnostics using DriveDebug or DriveWindow tools.

  • Comprehensive Status Indication: The front panel is equipped with multi-color LEDs for real-time display of power, operation, fault, and transmit/receive status for each channel, aiding field debugging and troubleshooting.

5. Installation and Configuration Guide

Installation Steps:

  1. Mount the TP858 baseplate onto a 35 mm horizontal DIN rail.

  2. Align the CI858 unit with the baseplate slot, ensuring the code lock matches, and gently push it in until it locks.

  3. Connect the fiber optic interfaces:

    • DriveBus: Connect to the drive device.

    • I/O Bus: Connect to dedicated I/O devices (if applicable).

    • PC Tools: Connect to an engineering laptop or desktop via a PCMCIA/DDCS or ISA/DDCS interface card.

  4. Ensure the controller is powered on and the CEX bus power supply is normal.

Software Configuration:

  1. Add the CI858 hardware module to the Control Builder project.

  2. Configure corresponding communication parameters (e.g., station address, baud rate).

  3. Compile and download the hardware configuration to the AC 800M controller.

  4. Use DriveWindow/DriveDebug tools for drive parameter setting and debugging.



6. Fault Diagnosis and Maintenance
