The 330130-040-00-00 is a standard extension cable component of the Baker Hughes Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System. It plays a critical "bridge" role within the entire measurement system, reliably connecting the probe installed on the machine casing to the proximitor located in the control cabinet, transmitting high-frequency electrical signals. It is a key link in ensuring the accuracy and stability of vibration and position measurements.

As part of the 3300 XL series, this extension cable incorporates advanced design and materials aimed at delivering excellent electrical performance, mechanical strength, and environmental tolerance. It works seamlessly with the fully interchangeable 3300 XL 8 mm probe and 3300 XL Proximitor to form a high-performance measurement system compliant with API 670 standards. The system outputs a voltage signal linearly proportional to the gap between the probe tip and the target metal surface, widely used for rotating machinery vibration monitoring, axial position measurement, Keyphasor acquisition, and speed measurement.

The model number 330130-040-00-00 specifically denotes a standard, non-armored, 4.0-meter long extension cable without pre-installed connector protectors and without specific agency approvals. It represents one of the most commonly used and cost-effective configurations in the series, suitable for most non-extreme industrial environments.

2. Configuration Analysis of 330130-040-00-00

According to the ordering information on pages 18-19 of the datasheet, each part of the model code has a specific meaning:

  • 330130: Represents the 3300 XL Standard Extension Cable.

  • -040: Represents the cable length option. Here, "040" indicates a cable length of 4.0 meters (approximately 13.1 feet). This is a very typical length for connecting equipment such as industrial pumps, fans, and motors.

  • The first -00: Represents the connector protector and cable type option. "00" signifies standard cable, meaning non-armored, non-FluidLoc type cable. It uses Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene (FEP) as the insulation material.

  • The second -00: Represents the agency approval option. Here, "00" means "Not Required" for specific hazardous area certifications (e.g., CSA, ATEX, IECEx). This cable is suitable for general industrial areas (non-hazardous) or for use in systems where the proximitor and probe already carry the necessary certifications.

Core Features:

  1. Full Interchangeability: As part of the 3300 XL system, this extension cable is fully compatible and interchangeable with all probes and proximitors in the same series, requiring no field calibration or matching, greatly simplifying spare parts inventory and field maintenance.

  2. Backward Compatibility: Although part of the XL series, its electrical and mechanical interfaces are fully compatible with components from the earlier non-XL 3300 series 5 mm and 8 mm systems, protecting customer investments.

  3. ClickLoc Connectors: Both ends of the cable are equipped with corrosion-resistant, gold-plated ClickLoc coaxial connectors. Connection requires only hand-tightening until a distinct "click" is heard, indicating proper locking. The specially designed locking mechanism effectively prevents loosening due to vibration, and no tools are required for installation.

  4. Robust Cable Construction: Utilizes a 75-ohm triaxial structure with precisely controlled DC resistance for both the center conductor and outer shield. The FEP insulation provides excellent electrical insulation, chemical stability, and a wide operating temperature range.

  5. Flexible Installation: The cable has a small outer diameter and good flexibility, with a minimum bend radius of only 25.4 mm (1 inch), facilitating routing in confined spaces.

3. Application Scenarios, Advantages & Selection Comparison

Typical Application Scenarios:

  • Industrial Rotating Machinery Monitoring: Steam turbines, gas turbines in power plants; centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, pumps in oil & gas/petrochemical; large motors, fans in metallurgy.

  • Position Measurement: Axial displacement of thrust bearings, valve stem travel.

  • Speed & Phase Reference: Keyphasor signal pickup, providing phase reference for vibration analysis.

  • General Industrial Environments: Areas with relatively clean, dry, and non-explosive atmospheres, such as control rooms or switchgear rooms.

Core Application Advantages:

  • Ensures Signal Integrity: Precise impedance control and low-loss design ensure accurate transmission of high-frequency vibration signals and DC gap signals from probe to proximitor, minimizing signal attenuation and distortion.

  • Foundation for System Reliability: Robust construction and reliable ClickLoc connections prevent measurement signal loss due to cable or connector failure, which is crucial for continuous monitoring of critical equipment.

  • Simplifies Engineering & Maintenance: Full interchangeability makes design selection, spare parts procurement, and field replacement extremely simple, eliminating compatibility concerns and reducing total cost of ownership.

  • Easy Installation: Lightweight, flexible cable is easy to route; ClickLoc connectors enable quick, tool-free connections, reducing installation time.

Selection Comparison & Upgrade Options:
Based on actual environmental needs, users may consider other options within the 330130 series:

  • Require Mechanical Protection: In areas where cables may be scraped, trodden on, or where moving parts are present, select armored cable (options -01, -03, -11, -13).

  • Prevent Internal Fluid Ingress: Where oil mist or liquid pressure may be present at the probe installation and internal fluid migration along the cable to junction boxes or control cabinets must be prevented, must select FluidLoc cable (options -10, -11, -12, -13).

  • Harsh Environment Connection Protection: For cable connections exposed to moisture, dust, or chemical spray, connector protectors are highly recommended. Cables can be ordered with pre-installed protectors (options -02, -03, -12, -13), or protector kits (e.g., 04013-02) can be purchased for field installation.

  • High-Temperature Environment: If the cable routing path may experience ambient temperatures consistently exceeding +177°C, select the 3300 XL Extended Temperature Range (ETR) Extension Cable (model 330190-xxx-xx-xx), which uses PFA insulation rated up to +260°C.

4. Installation, Usage Notes & Ordering Guide

Installation Key Points:

  1. Length Calculation: System planning is essential before ordering. The total system length (probe cable length + extension cable length) must exactly match the selected proximitor's system length (1m, 5m, or 9m). Example: For a 5m system with a 1m probe, the extension cable must be 4m (330130-040-...).

  2. Cable Routing: Avoid sharp bends during routing; ensure the minimum bend radius is not less than 25.4 mm. Avoid subjecting the cable to excessive tensile or shear forces.

  3. Connection Procedure: Align the ClickLoc connectors and hand-tighten clockwise until a distinct "click" is heard, indicating locking. Do not use wrenches or other tools to overtighten.

  4. Environmental Protection: Even with the -00 option (no pre-installed protectors), it is strongly recommended to install connector protectors (order 03339410/03339420 or kit 04013-02) or use silicone self-fusing tape (P/N 03200006) for sealing at all connections in outdoor, damp, dusty, or corrosive gas installations. Note: Silicone tape is not recommended for locations in contact with turbine oil.

  5. Grounding: Follow the system installation manual to ensure proper grounding of the cable shield at the proximitor end to reduce noise interference.
