The TU810V1 (also referred to as TU810/TU810V1) is a 16-channel, 50 V rated Compact Module Termination Unit (MTU) designed by ABB specifically for the S800 I/O system. This product is a passive unit whose core function is to serve as a secure and reliable connection hub between field wiring (field signals and process power) and various I/O modules. It is not only a carrier for physical connections but also integrates part of the ModuleBus system, responsible for distributing bus signals among I/O modules and transmitting module address information. It is a key component enabling the modular, high-density installation of the S800 I/O system.
With its compact mechanical design, flexible configuration, and strong compatibility, the TU810V1 is widely used in industrial automation, process control, energy management, and other fields, suitable for applications requiring high-reliability signal connection and processing.
High-Density Compact Design: Utilizes single-wire connections, significantly saving installation space within control cabinets, allowing deployment of more I/O points in a limited area.
Comprehensive Channel Capacity: Provides up to 16 independent field signal channels and multiple process power connection points, meeting the wiring requirements of complex systems.
Integrated ModuleBus Function: Built-in ModuleBus distribution circuitry transmits bus signals to downstream I/O modules and subsequent MTUs. By shifting position signals, it automatically generates the correct address for the connected I/O module, simplifying system configuration.
Mechanical Keying for Error Prevention: Equipped with two independent mechanical keys, each with 6 positions, enabling 36 different mechanical combinations. This physical lock-and-key mechanism effectively prevents incorrect I/O module types from being inserted, ensuring system integrity at the hardware level.
Convenient Installation and Maintenance:
DIN Rail Mounting: Supports standard DIN rail mounting and can be installed in both directions.
Integrated Locking Mechanism: Features a mechanical latch that securely locks the MTU onto the rail and provides a grounding path. The latch can be easily released with a screwdriver.
Module Latching Design: Includes a mechanical latching mechanism that locks the I/O module in place. This mechanism also sends a BLOCK signal to the I/O module, keeping it in its initialization state until fully locked, ensuring safety.
Field-Replaceable Terminal Block: The upper part of the MTU (terminal block section) can be removed and replaced even with the system operational, for instance, in case of damaged terminal screws, greatly enhancing maintenance convenience and system availability.
Signal Grouping and Isolation: Process signal terminals are divided into two completely equal and electrically isolated groups. Each group consists of 8 I/O channels, 1 process power (L+) connection point, and 5 common negative (L-) connection points, facilitating noise management and power distribution.
The TU810V1 MTU plays a "bridging" role in the S800 I/O system:
Downward Connection: Reliably connects field sensor/actuator signal wires and process power wires via screw terminal blocks.
Upward Connection: Connects via a backplane connector to the corresponding I/O module, delivering field signals for processing and providing the module with operating power and bus communication.
Bus Expansion: Through its two ModuleBus connectors (one male, one female), multiple MTUs and I/O modules can be connected in series to build a complete I/O station.
Its mechanical keying system is a crucial feature for ensuring system integrity. Before installing an I/O module, the two mechanical keys must be set to the correct position using a screwdriver according to the module type. Only modules with matching keying can be fully inserted and locked, preventing potential data errors or equipment damage caused by incorrect module types.
Its grouped and isolated terminal design (two independent groups of 8 channels) is beneficial for achieving better signal management and power distribution in complex systems, reducing interference and improving system stability.
Installation: Snap the MTU onto a standard DIN rail. Use its integrated latch mechanism to secure it and establish ground connection. Pay attention to maximum ambient temperature limits (55°C horizontal, 40°C vertical) during installation.
Configuration: Using a small screwdriver, rotate the two mechanical keys to the correct position (one of 36 combinations) according to the I/O module type to be used, referring to the manual.
Wiring: Connect field wiring and process power according to the terminal block diagram. Always use wires within the specified gauge and tighten terminal screws to the recommended torque (0.5-0.6 Nm) to ensure reliable connections.
Module Installation: Align the correctly keyed I/O module with the MTU's guide slots and insert it until the mechanical latch clicks, locking the module in place. At this point, the BLOCK signal is deactivated, and the module can initialize and operate normally.
Maintenance: If the terminal block needs replacement, the upper terminal block module of the MTU can be removed and replaced without powering down the entire system (ensuring relevant circuits are safe).
