The ABB 07 KT 97 is a high-performance basic unit (CPU module) within the Advant Controller 31 intelligent decentralized automation system. It integrates powerful processing capabilities, rich integrated I/O interfaces, and flexible communication options. It can function as the master station on the CS31 system bus to build powerful distributed control systems, or serve as a remote intelligent slave station or a standalone controller. It is an ideal core controller for meeting mid-to-high-end industrial automation application requirements.


As the standard high-performance model in this series, the 07 KT 97 R0200 offers up to 480 kB of user program memory and 256 kB of user data memory. It integrates digital, analog, high-speed counter, and various communication interfaces, enabling tight integration of the controller with field signals. This reduces reliance on external expansion modules and enhances system compactness and reliability.

2.1 Powerful Processing and Memory

  • User Program Memory: 480 kB Flash EPROM, supporting complex control logic.

  • User Data Memory: 256 kB for storing process variables, recipes, etc., with battery backup support.

  • Processing Speed: Typical processing time of 0.3 ms/kB of program (65% bit instructions, 35% word instructions), ensuring fast program scan cycles.

2.2 Rich Integrated I/O Resources (example: 07 KT 97 R0200)

  • Digital Inputs (DI): 24 channels, divided into 3 groups (8 channels each), with electrical isolation between groups and from the system, supporting 24V DC signals.

  • Digital Outputs (DO): 16 transistor outputs, divided into 2 groups (8 channels each), with isolation between groups. Each channel has a rated load of 0.5A, featuring short-circuit and overload protection.

  • Digital Inputs/Outputs (DIO): 8 configurable channels that can be individually set as inputs, outputs, or re-readable outputs, integrated into one isolated group.

  • Analog Inputs (AI): 8 high-precision, individually configurable inputs. Each channel can be independently set to:

    • Voltage input: 0…10 V, 0…5 V, ±10 V, ±5 V

  • CS31 System Bus Interface: For connecting Advant Controller 31 distributed remote I/O modules (e.g., previously mentioned 07 DC 92, 07 DI 92), expandable up to 992 digital I/O points or 224 analog channels.

  • Serial Interfaces: 2 independent RS-232 interfaces (COM1, COM2) for programming, debugging, connecting to operator panels, or acting as MODBUS master/slave.

  • Optional Integrated Network Interfaces: The 07 KT 97 offers various versions, optionally integrating the following high-performance fieldbus or industrial Ethernet interfaces for seamless integration with upper-level networks or third-party devices:

    • PROFIBUS-DP: Compliant with EN 50170 standard, can act as master or slave.

  • Analog Signals: The analog input and output groups are internally non-isolated, but their reference grounds (AGND1, AGND2) are allowed a certain potential difference (±1V) from the digital ground and power ground. Reliable operation is achieved using shielded cables and proper grounding.

  • Communication Interfaces: CS31 bus and serial interfaces COM1/COM2 are isolated from internal circuits.

  • Power Supply: 24V DC input has reverse polarity protection.

3.3 Power Supply and Grounding

  • Power Supply: 24 V DC (±15%), connected via a 5-pin terminal block. A stable and reliable industrial switching power supply is recommended.

  • Grounding: Provides a Protective Earth (PE) terminal and a Faston grounding terminal. It is emphasized that these must be connected to the control cabinet's grounding system, avoiding ground loops. Shields of analog signal cables should be grounded at a single point on the controller side.
