The DI801 is a high-performance digital input module in the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® hardware selection, designed specifically for the S800 I/O system. This module provides 16 channels of 24V DC input, utilizing current sinking (sourcing) technology. It offers high reliability, strong noise immunity, and flexible configuration options, making it suitable for various demanding environments such as industrial automation, process control, and smart manufacturing.
The DI801 features a compact modular design that supports quick field installation and maintenance. All 16 input channels are housed in a single isolated group, with comprehensive EMC protection, status indication LEDs, and opto-isolation barriers. Notably, Channel 16 can be configured as a voltage supervision input for the group, enabling real-time monitoring of the process power supply status and enhancing system diagnostics and reliability.
This module is ideal for connecting various field devices like digital sensors, push buttons, and limit switches. It converts physical contact signals into digital signals and facilitates high-speed, reliable data exchange with the upper-level control system via the ModuleBus.
High-Density Input: 16 digital input channels integrated into a single module, saving space and cost.
Wide Voltage Range: Supports 18–30V DC input, accommodating field voltage fluctuations.
Current Sinking Inputs: Compatible with common PLC and sensor output types.
Group Isolation: All channels are isolated from ground, enhancing system noise immunity and safety.
Voltage Supervision Function: Channel 16 can be configured as a voltage supervision input to monitor the process power supply status in real time.
Adjustable Digital Filtering: Supports four selectable filter times: 2, 4, 8, and 16 ms, effectively suppressing noise pulses.
Visual Status Management: Each channel has an LED status indicator. The module front provides a Run/Fault status LED.
Convenient Connection: Process signals and power are connected via detachable connectors for easy wiring.
Comprehensive Diagnostics: Supports multi-level status indication including Module Error, Module Warning, and Channel Error.
Robust Environmental Suitability: Certified for CE, UL, ATEX, Marine Class (ABS, BV, DNV, LR), etc., suitable for industrial, marine, and hazardous location applications.
Channel 16 of the DI801 can be configured as a process voltage supervision input for the group. When enabled, if the voltage connected to Channel 16 is lost, the module activates an error input signal, which is reported to the system via the ModuleBus. This supervision can be flexibly enabled or disabled via parameter "a." If disabled, Channel 16 operates as a normal input channel.
The module features a programmable digital filter with four selectable time constants: 2, 4, 8, and 16 ms. This function effectively filters out noise pulses shorter than the set time, ensuring signal stability. Correspondingly, pulses longer than 3, 6, 12, and 24 ms can pass through the filter normally, balancing response speed and noise immunity.
All 16 input channels reside in a single isolated group, with opto-isolation between the group and ground rated at 500 V AC. Each channel integrates current-limiting components, EMC protection circuits, and a status LED, providing robust protection against overvoltage, overcurrent, and surges.
The module front features a master status LED (Green/Red) and 16 channel status LEDs (Green for "1", Off for "0"). The system can read module errors, warnings, and channel-level error information, supporting rapid fault localization and maintenance.
The DI801 uses detachable connectors, allowing for quick plug-and-play installation and replacement. Process signals are connected via terminal blocks as per the following assignment:
| Process Connection | Corresponding Terminal |
|---|---|
| Channel 1 Input | Terminal 1 |
| Channel 2 Input | Terminal 2 |

Wiring Notes:
Use wires within the recommended specifications and tighten them to the specified torque.
Ensure proper stripping length to avoid short circuits or poor contact.
For long-distance cabling (up to 600m), shielded cables are recommended to minimize interference.
The DI801 is suitable for various industrial automation and process control scenarios, including but not limited to:
Manufacturing: Machine tool control, assembly line sensor signal acquisition, safety door monitoring.
Process Industries: Pump/valve status monitoring, level switch detection, alarm signal input.
Energy Management: Switchgear status monitoring, generator control signal acquisition.
Marine & Offshore Engineering: Certified by major marine classification societies, suitable for engine room monitoring, alarm systems.
Hazardous Areas: Certified for ATEX Zone 2 and Class I Div 2, suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
