The DI820 is a high-performance, highly reliable digital input module within the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® hardware platform, designed for applications requiring the processing of high-voltage digital signals in industrial automation and control systems. Belonging to the S800 I/O series, this module provides 8 independent channels supporting 120V AC/DC inputs. It is suitable for digital signal acquisition in various industrial field applications, such as switch status, relay outputs, and sensor signals. The DI820 features excellent electrical isolation, flexible voltage supervision, and configurable signal filtering, ensuring stable and safe operation in harsh industrial environments.
The module is applicable in process industries, power systems, manufacturing, building automation, and other fields. It can be used with various Module Termination Units (MTUs), offering flexible system integration solutions. Its design complies with numerous international electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility standards and supports a wide range of industrial communication protocols, making it an ideal choice for building highly reliable automation systems.
8 High-Voltage Input Channels: Supports 120V AC and 110V DC inputs, suitable for common high-level signal acquisition in industrial settings.
Individually Isolated Channels: Each input channel features electrical isolation, effectively preventing signal interference and electrical surges, enhancing system safety.
Voltage Supervision Function: Channel 1 and Channel 8 can be used to supervise the supply voltage for Channels 2–4 and Channels 5–7 respectively, enabling real-time monitoring and fault alarm for input power.
Input Status Indicators: Each channel is equipped with a status LED, facilitating on-site debugging and fault diagnosis.
Configurable Signal Filtering: Supports digital filtering (2, 4, 8, 16 ms) and analog filtering (6 ms), effectively suppressing noise interference and improving signal acquisition stability.
Wide Input Voltage Range: AC input range 77–130V, DC input range 75–145V, providing good power supply adaptability.
Modular Design: Compatible with various MTUs, offering flexible installation and easy maintenance.
Channels 1 and 8 of the DI820 can be used as voltage supervision inputs, monitoring the supply voltage for Channels 2–4 and Channels 5–7, respectively. If a power anomaly (e.g., loss of power) is detected by a supervision channel, the module activates an error input signal, illuminates the Warning LED on the front panel, and the error status can be read via the ModuleBus. This function can be enabled or disabled via a parameter. If disabled, Channels 1 and 8 can be used as normal input channels.
The module features a built-in analog filter (fixed 6 ms) and configurable digital filters (2, 4, 8, 16 ms). The analog filter suppresses high-frequency noise, while the digital filter, configurable via software, removes interference pulses shorter than the set time, ensuring stable and reliable signals.
Each input channel uses optical isolation design, effectively isolating field signals from the internal system circuits, preventing electrical surges and common-mode interference. The module also includes current limiting and EMC protection components, enhancing its immunity in harsh industrial environments.
Each channel has an independent LED status indicator showing the input signal state. The module's front panel also features RUN, FAULT, and WARNING indicators. Combined with ModuleBus communication, this enables remote status monitoring and fault diagnosis.
The DI820 is compatible with various Module Termination Units (MTUs), including Compact (TU811/TU811V1, TU813) and Extended (TU831, TU839, TU851) types, meeting different installation density and wiring requirements. The pluggable terminal blocks facilitate easy installation and maintenance.
The DI820 is compatible with the ABB System 800xA and Symphony Plus control systems and can be used with the following MTUs:
TU811/TU811V1 Compact MTU: Two terminals per channel, suitable for space-constrained applications.
TU813 Compact MTU: Similar structure to TU811, for standard compact installations.
TU831 Extended MTU: Two terminals per channel, suitable for high-density wiring.
TU839 Extended MTU: In addition to channel terminals, provides an output terminal for sensor supply.
TU851 Extended MTU: Suitable for applications requiring higher wiring flexibility.
The module uses keying code AB to prevent misinsertion, ensuring accurate system configuration.
The DI820 complies with numerous international standards and certifications, ensuring its global reliability and compliance:
