The IS2020RKPSG3A is a high-performance, industrial-grade VME rack power supply module specifically designed for the GE Mark VI turbine control system's VME racks. This power supply mounts on the side of the VME control and interface racks, providing stable and reliable multi-output DC power to the backplane. It delivers +5V, ±12V, ±15V, ±28V DC, and an optional 335V DC output for powering peripheral devices such as TRPG flame detectors.
As a next-generation design, the IS2020RKPSG3A features higher integration, enhanced diagnostic capabilities, and superior thermal management. It operates on a 125V DC input, provides 400W of output power, and supports redundant operation, making it ideal for industrial control environments with stringent reliability requirements.
The IS2020RKPSG3A provides various output voltages to meet the power requirements of all modules within the VME rack, including:
+5V main power
±12V analog power
±15V analog power
±28V drive power
Optional 335V DC output (for flame detectors)
The module supports redundant configurations, ensuring continuous system operation even if the primary power supply fails, thereby significantly enhancing system reliability and availability.
The new design includes a status output interface for real-time feedback on the power supply's operational status. A tri-color LED indicator (Green, Yellow, Red) on the front panel provides clear visual status indication for normal operation, input power presence, and fault conditions.
Comprehensive protection features include:
Input under-voltage / over-voltage protection
Output over-current / over-voltage protection
Over-temperature protection
5V output under-voltage lockout
The P28C or PS28 output at the bottom of the unit can be used to power external peripheral devices. A jumper plug on the mounting bracket allows selection between Normal mode and Isolated mode.
The IS2020RKPSG3A power supply mounts on the right-hand side of the VME rack using a sheet metal bracket. The installation procedure is as follows:
Position the power supply module on the mounting bracket, aligning the front of the module with the captive fasteners.
Secure the module to the bracket using the four mounting screws and tighten them.
Slide the module and bracket assembly onto the control rack, connect the four rear side connectors, and push the assembly in to tighten the two front captive fasteners.
Insert the rear tab of the PSA/PSB assembly into the slot on the bracket located at the top rear of the power supply module.
Push the connector assembly into the mating connectors on the top of the power supply module.
Tighten the captive fastener on the PSA/PSB bracket.
Connect all connectors at the bottom of the power supply.
WARNING: To prevent electric shock, turn off power to the unit before removal or installation and verify that no power exists on the module before touching it or any connected circuits.
The IS2020RKPSG3A front panel features a locking power switch that must be pulled out to change its position. This switch controls the enabling or disabling of the output voltages and also serves as a fault reset.
Green LED ON: Input power is present, the power switch is ON, and no faults are detected.
Yellow LED ON: Input power is present at the supply input connector, but the power switch is OFF. (For newer designs, this LED only turns on if the input voltage is above the under-voltage threshold).
Red LED ON: Input power is present, the power switch is ON, and a fault has been detected.
The newer design includes a status output that mimics the state of the Green LED. It consists of a normally open solid-state relay contact that CLOSES when the Green LED is ON.
Input Under-voltage: Input voltage falls below the minimum threshold. Outputs are disabled, and the Red LED illuminates.
Input Over-voltage (New Design): Input voltage exceeds the maximum threshold. Outputs are disabled, and the Red LED illuminates; requires a reset.
5V Output Under-voltage: 5V output drops below approx. 4.7V. All outputs are disabled, and the Red LED illuminates.
5V Output Over-voltage: 5V output exceeds approx. 6V. Outputs are latched off, and the Red LED illuminates.
Other Output Over-voltage: Output voltage exceeds 120% of its nominal value. The affected output is latched off.
Over-temperature Fault (New Design): An output module exceeds its temperature threshold, inhibiting that output.
Toggle the front panel power switch OFF and then back ON.
Or, cycle the input power (remove and re-apply).
For over-voltage faults on newer designs: Input power must be removed for a minimum of one minute before reapplying to reset the fault.
This power supply contains no field-serviceable components. Do not attempt to remove the cover.
If the module is found to be defective, it must be replaced entirely.
Before replacing a suspected faulty supply, verify the input power and check for potential issues in the load system to prevent recurrence.
Regularly monitor the LED status and system alarms for proactive issue detection.
