The DS200EXPSG1A is a Bulk Power Supply Board designed by General Electric (GE) Drive Systems for its DC2000, CB2000, EX2000, FC2000, GF2000, ME2000, and AC2000 IGBT drive systems. Belonging to the EXPS (Bulk Power Supply Board) series, this board is part of the G1 group and represents revision A, serving as a core component for measuring and controlling input power within the drive system.

The primary function of the EXPS bulk power supply board is to measure AC and DC input power voltage and current signals, providing accurate power status feedback to the drive control system. Additionally, the board features a current limiting function that effectively limits inrush current when the system is powered from a station battery, protecting power equipment and downstream circuits from damage. The board is typically installed as part of the bulk power supply assembly within the drive cabinet, serving as a critical interface between the control power transformer and the drive control system.

The DS200EXPSG1A board is designed to meet the demands of industrial drive applications and features the following characteristics:

  • Power Measurement Function: Accurately measures voltage and current parameters of AC and DC input power.

  • Current Limiting Protection: Provides current limiting when powered from a station battery, protecting power equipment.

  • Single Jumper Configuration: Features only one configurable hardware jumper (JP1) for selecting transformer neutral grounding.

  • Modular Design: Integrated into the bulk power supply assembly for easy replacement and maintenance.

  • ESD Protection: All boards must be handled as static-sensitive devices to ensure reliability.

This product is widely used in DC drive systems, excitation systems, variable frequency drive systems, and various industrial process control applications, particularly in high-reliability industrial environments requiring power from station batteries.

II. Key Functions

1. AC Input Power Measurement

The DS200EXPSG1A board accurately measures AC input voltage and current signals from the control power transformer (CPT). These measurement signals are used for:

  • Monitoring AC input power voltage amplitude and frequency.

  • Detecting abnormal input power conditions (such as phase loss, over-voltage, under-voltage).

  • Providing synchronization signals for the drive control system.

2. DC Input Power Measurement

When the system is powered by DC (such as from a station battery), the EXPS board accurately measures DC input voltage and current. The measurement signals are used for:

  • Monitoring DC bus voltage status.

  • Detecting abnormal fluctuations in DC input power.

  • Providing input for protection circuits.

3. Current Limiting Function

A key feature of the DS200EXPSG1A board is its current limiting function. When the drive system is powered from a station battery, the internal current limiting circuit effectively limits inrush current during power-up, preventing:

  • Damage to the battery pack from overcurrent.

  • Damage to internal components of power equipment.

  • Misoperation of system protection devices.

4. Power Status Signal Output

The DS200EXPSG1A board transmits measured power status signals to the main control board of the drive control system via onboard connectors for:

  • Power status monitoring and display.

  • Fault diagnosis and alarming.

  • Power status determination for control logic.

5. Transformer Neutral Grounding Configuration

The board features one hardware jumper, JP1, used to connect the center tap of transformer T1 secondary to ground. This configuration is critical for system electrical safety and signal reference, with specific settings depending on field application requirements.

III. Hardware Architecture

1. Board Structure

The DS200EXPSG1A board uses a standard printed circuit board structure and is installed inside the bulk power supply assembly. The board's main components include:

  • Power Measurement Circuits: For acquiring AC/DC input voltage and current signals.

  • Current Limiting Circuit: Provides inrush current limitation when powered by battery.

  • Signal Conditioning Circuits: Filter, amplify, and isolate measurement signals.

  • JP1 Jumper: The only configurable hardware jumper.

  • Multiple Connectors: For power input, output, and control signal connections.

2. Mounting Location

The DS200EXPSG1A board is part of the bulk power supply assembly and is installed inside the drive cabinet. The entire power supply assembly is secured to the cabinet by mounting screws, and the board itself is covered by a plastic protective cover for physical protection and insulation.

3. Connector Description

The DS200EXPSG1A board includes various connectors for power input, output, and control signals:

Connector Type Function Description
ACPL Plug-in AC power input connection
DCPL Plug-in DC power input connection
3GDPL Plug-in Gate drive power connection
4GDPL Plug-in Gate drive power connection

CPS PTB1/PTB2 Terminal Block Control power supply terminals (black/white wires)

4. Hardware Jumper

Jumper Function Position Description
JP1 Transformer T1 secondary center tap grounding selection When connected, the transformer secondary center tap is grounded; when open, it is not grounded. Refer to the configuration of the board being replaced for correct setting.

IV. Detailed Interface Description

1. ACPL Connector

The ACPL connector is used for AC power input, typically from the control power transformer (CPT). This plug-in connector design allows for quick disconnection during board replacement.

2. DCPL Connector

The DCPL connector is used for DC power input, typically from a station battery. When the system is powered by DC, this connector provides the power input path.

3. 3GDPL and 4GDPL Connectors

These connectors are used to connect gate drive power, supplying power to the gate drive circuits of the drive system.

4. 1FTB and 1TB-8TB Terminal Blocks

These terminal blocks provide multiple field wiring points for connecting various power measurement and control signals. Refer to system drawings for specific wiring methods.

5. DCTB Terminal Block

The DCTB terminal block is used for signals related to DC power, which may include DC bus voltage and current measurement signals.

6. VM2A and VM2B Terminal Blocks

These terminal blocks are used to connect motor voltage feedback signals, transmitting motor terminal voltage signals to the drive control system.

7. CPS PTB1/PTB2 Terminal Blocks

The CPS PTB1 and PTB2 terminal blocks are used to connect the control power supply, typically with black and white wires that must be correctly connected as marked.

V. Configuration and Settings

1. Hardware Jumper JP1 Configuration

The only configurable hardware jumper on the EXPS board is JP1, which selects the grounding method for the transformer T1 secondary center tap:

JP1 Position Function
Connected (IN) Transformer T1 secondary center tap is grounded
Open (OUT) Transformer T1 secondary center tap is not grounded

Important Notes:

  • When replacing the EXPS board, JP1 on the new board must be set to the same position as on the board being replaced.

  • JP1 configuration is critical to system electrical safety.

  • Consult system drawings or test data sheets to confirm the correct jumper position before replacement.

2. Board Replacement Considerations

Since different revision boards may have hardware variations, GE ensures backward compatibility of replacement boards. When replacing, note the following:

  • Record the positions of all jumpers on the board being replaced.

  • Set jumpers on the new board to the same positions.

  • Reconnect all cables in the correct sequence.

3. Electrostatic Discharge Protection

All boards are static-sensitive devices and must be handled following these principles:

  • Use a grounding strap.

  • Operate at a properly grounded workstation.

  • Store boards in anti-static bags or boxes.

VI. Installation and Maintenance
