330130-085-00-05 is a Bently Nevada 3300 XL series standard extension cable with a total length of 8.5 meters (27.9 feet). This model features standard FEP-insulated cable and carries CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous area approvals, making it suitable for intrinsically safe (IS) installations in explosive atmospheres.

It is an essential component of the 3300 XL 8 mm eddy current probe system, specifically designed for applications requiring the precise 8.5 meter length to match a 0.5 meter hazardous area approved probe to form a complete 9 meter intrinsically safe system. Typical applications include vibration monitoring of turbomachinery and compressors in Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous areas such as refineries, chemical plants, and natural gas facilities.

Model Breakdown: 330130-085-00-05 Configuration Details

Following Bently Nevada’s part number coding system (refer to datasheet Pages 18-19), the fields in this model number represent the following:

Key Configuration Note: The combination of 085 and 05 is the defining feature of this model. In a 3300 XL intrinsically safe system, when using a 0.5 meter hazardous area approved probe (e.g., 330101-XX-05-XX-05), an 8.5 meter hazardous area approved extension cable is required to form a complete 9 m IS system (0.5 m + 8.5 m = 9 m). This model is specifically designed for such precise total length matching in hazardous area applications.

Conditions of Safe Use (Intrinsically Safe Systems)

When used in an intrinsically safe system, the following conditions must be observed:

  • Barriers/Isolators: Must be installed with intrinsically safe zener barriers per Bently Nevada drawing 141092, or with galvanic isolators.

  • Entity Parameters (when connected to approved Proximitor Sensor):

    • Ui = -28V

    • Ii = 140 mA

    • Pi = 0.91 W

    • Ci = 47 nF

    • Li = 1460 μH

  • Installation Environment: The Proximitor Sensor must be installed in a non-hazardous area or within an approved explosion-proof enclosure.

Important: This cable must be used with hazardous area approved probes (e.g., 330101-XX-05-XX-05) and Proximitor Sensors (e.g., 330180-90-05) to maintain a complete intrinsically safe system. Mixing with non-approved components will void the hazardous area certification.

Application Scenarios & Selection Guide

330130-085-00-05 is suitable for the following typical applications:

  1. Precise Total Length Matching for 9 m IS Systems: When using a 0.5 meter hazardous area approved probe, an 8.5 meter hazardous area approved extension cable is required to form a complete 9 m IS system (0.5 m + 8.5 m = 9 m). This is the primary application for this model, common in hazardous areas requiring long-distance signal transmission.

  2. Medium-Distance Signal Transmission in Hazardous Areas: When the field routing distance is between 8.0 and 9.0 meters and hazardous area approval is required, the 8.5 meter length provides a precise intermediate option, avoiding excess cable coiling or insufficient length.

  3. Turbomachinery Monitoring in Refineries and Petrochemical Plants: Steam turbines, compressors, and gas turbines are often located in Zone 1 or Zone 2 areas, with probe mounting points far from the Proximitor Sensor. This model meets both precise total length matching and hazardous area requirements.

  4. Interchangeability with Other 8.5 m Hazardous Area Configurations: For armored, connector protector, or FluidLoc options in the same length, refer to other cable option hazardous area versions (e.g., 330130-085-02-05, 330130-085-01-05, 330130-085-12-05).

Selection Notes:

  • Total Length Matching: Probe length + extension cable length = Proximitor Sensor total system length (5 m or 9 m). Verify your probe length: if using a 0.5 m hazardous area approved probe, select this model (8.5 m); if using a 1.0 m hazardous area approved probe, select an 8.0 m hazardous area approved extension cable (e.g., 330130-080-00-05).

  • System Integrity: All components entering the hazardous area (probe, extension cable, connector protectors) must carry the same hazardous area approval rating. This model is standard cable without connector protectors – if environmental sealing is required, select a version with protectors.

  • Ambient Temperature: If the application environment exceeds +177°C, consider the ETR (Extended Temperature Range) hazardous area extension cable series (e.g., 330190-085-00-05).

  • Length Verification: 8.5 m is the total length including connectors. Confirm that the field routing distance is within 8.5 m to ensure proper fit.

Standard 9 m intrinsically safe systems are typically composed of a 1.0 m probe + 8.0 m cable, or a 0.5 m probe + 8.5 m cable. Choose the extension cable length that matches your probe.

Mechanical Dimensions & Installation

  • Cable Outer Diameter: Standard cable 3.68 mm (0.145 in) maximum

  • Connector: Features the ClickLoc design. Finger-tighten until an audible "click" is heard — no special tools are required.

  • Installation Drawing: Intrinsically safe system installation must strictly follow Bently Nevada drawing 141092, including barrier selection, grounding, and wiring practices.

  • Installation Tips: When routing through conduit in hazardous areas, use a pull rope or fish tape attached to the cable jacket (not the connector) to avoid stress. If environmental sealing of the connector is required, select a version with connector protectors (e.g., 330130-085-02-05) or field-install connector protectors that are suitable for hazardous area use.
