330130-080-01-05 is a high-performance Bently Nevada 3300 XL series extension cable with a total length of 8.0 meters (26.2 feet). This model integrates two core features: stainless steel armor for superior mechanical protection and CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous area approvals for safe use in explosive atmospheres, but does not include connector protectors.

It is an essential component of the 3300 XL 8 mm eddy current probe system, designed for industrial environments requiring both mechanical robustness and intrinsic safety, where additional environmental sealing of the connector is unnecessary (or can be handled in the field). Typical applications include petrochemical plants, natural gas facilities, refineries, and other locations with flammable gases or vapors in Zone 0 and Zone 1 hazardous areas.

Model Breakdown: 330130-080-01-05 Configuration Details

Following Bently Nevada’s part number coding system, the fields in this model number represent the following:

Description

Base Model

330130

3300 XL Standard Extension Cable

Compatible with 3300 XL 8 mm and 3300 5 mm series probes

Length Option

080

8.0 meters (26.2 ft)

Total cable length, suitable for long-distance signal transmission

Cable Option

01

Armored Cable (No Connector Protector)

Stainless steel armor provides mechanical protection; no pre-installed connector protectors

Agency Approval

05

CSA, ATEX, IECEx Hazardous Area Approvals

Key Configuration Note: The combination of 01 and 05 is the defining feature of this model. It offers both the mechanical strength of armor and the safety of hazardous area certifications. Compared to 03-05 (armored + protector + approvals), this model does not include connector protectors, making it suitable for applications where connector sealing is unnecessary or will be handled separately, while offering a lower cost.

Conditions of Safe Use (Intrinsically Safe Systems)

When used in an intrinsically safe system, the following conditions must be observed:

  • Barriers/Isolators: Must be installed with intrinsically safe zener barriers per Bently Nevada drawing 141092, or with galvanic isolators.

  • Entity Parameters (when connected to approved Proximitor Sensor):

    • Ui = -28V

    • Ii = 140 mA

    • Pi = 0.91 W

    • Ci = 47 nF

    • Li = 1460 μH

  • Installation Environment: The Proximitor Sensor must be installed in a non-hazardous area or within an approved explosion-proof enclosure.

Important: This cable must be used with hazardous area approved probes (e.g., 330101-XX-XX-XX-05) and Proximitor Sensors (e.g., 330180-XX-05) to maintain a complete intrinsically safe system. Mixing with non-approved components will void the hazardous area certification.

Armor Details (No Connector Protector)

Stainless Steel Armor

The armor layer consists of flexible AISI 302 or 304 stainless steel braid, covered with an FEP outer jacket, providing the following protection:

  • Crush Resistance: Prevents cable damage from compression during installation or operation

  • Tensile Strength: Enhances overall cable pull strength for long-distance conduit routing

  • Abrasion Resistance: Prevents insulation damage from friction against metal conduits or equipment edges

  • Cut Resistance: Protects internal conductors from accidental cuts or sharp object damage

In hazardous area environments, the armor not only provides mechanical protection but also serves as an additional safety barrier against external impact that could compromise cable integrity.

No Connector Protector

This model does not include pre-installed connector protectors, meaning:

  • The connector is exposed to the environment without additional oil or dust sealing

  • Suitable for dry, clean hazardous area installations where the connector will not contact turbine oil, moisture, or dust

  • If protection against moisture, oil, or conduit abrasion is required, consider the 03-05 option (armored + protector + approvals), or field-install connector protectors (part numbers 40113-02 or 40180-02)

Selection Tip: In hazardous area installations where the connector may be exposed to oil mist or requires pulling through conduit, we strongly recommend selecting a version with connector protectors (e.g., 330130-080-03-05) to maintain intrinsic safety system integrity. Silicone tape is not recommended for turbine oil environments.

Application Scenarios & Selection Guide

330130-080-01-05 is suitable for the following typical applications:

  1. Long-Distance Conduit Routing in Hazardous Areas (Dry Environments): In refineries, chemical plants, and other Zone 0/1 areas, when cables must be routed through metal conduit but the connector end is located in a dry, oil-free junction box, armor provides mechanical protection, hazardous area approvals ensure compliance, and connector sealing is unnecessary.

  2. High Mechanical Stress with Explosion Protection (No Oil Contact): Near large turbomachinery and compressors in hazardous areas, cables may be subjected to vibration, friction, or accidental impact — armor provides an extra margin of safety, hazardous area approvals ensure safe operation, and the connector remains in a relatively clean area.

  3. Cost-Sensitive Hazardous Area Projects: Compared to the 03-05 option, this model omits connector protectors, reducing procurement cost while still providing armor and hazardous area approvals — ideal for budget-conscious projects requiring dual protection.

  4. Long-Distance 9 m Monitoring Systems in Hazardous Areas: When paired with a 1.0 m hazardous area approved probe (e.g., 330101-XX-10-XX-05), this cable completes a 9 m intrinsically safe monitoring chain while ensuring mechanical reliability during long-distance routing.

Selection Notes:

  • Total Length Matching: Probe length + extension cable length = Proximitor Sensor total system length (5 m or 9 m). Verify that both the probe and Proximitor Sensor are approved versions and that total lengths match.

  • Bend Radius: The minimum bend radius for armored cable remains 25.4 mm (1.0 in), the same as standard cable. However, the armor increases cable stiffness and outer diameter — allow sufficient clearance when routing in confined spaces.

  • Weight: Armored cable weighs approximately 103 g/m (standard cable is 34 g/m). For long-distance installations, consider the additional tensile load on connectors and probes.

  • Ambient Temperature: If the application environment exceeds +177°C, consider the ETR (Extended Temperature Range) armored hazardous area cable series (e.g., 330190-080-01-05).

  • System Integrity: All components entering the hazardous area (probe, extension cable) must carry the same hazardous area approval rating. If connector protection is needed, use certified compatible protectors.

  • Connector Sealing: If the connector may be exposed to liquids or dust in the installation environment, field-install connector protectors or select the 03-05 version.

Mechanical Dimensions & Installation

  • Cable Outer Diameter:

    • Armored section: 7.67 mm (0.302 in) maximum

    • Armor ferrule: 10.2 mm (0.40 in) maximum

    • Non-armored section (near connector end): 3.68 mm (0.145 in) standard cable diameter

  • Connector: Features the ClickLoc design. Finger-tighten until an audible "click" is heard — no special tools are required.

  • Installation Drawing: Intrinsically safe system installation must strictly follow Bently Nevada drawing 141092, including barrier selection, grounding, and wiring practices.

  • Hazardous Area Installation Tips: When routing through conduit, use a pull rope or fish tape attached to the cable jacket (not the connector) to avoid stress on the connector. If environmental sealing of the connector is required, field-install connector protectors (ensure protectors are suitable for hazardous area use).
