The IS200ATBAG1B is an Application I/O Terminal Board designed by General Electric (GE) Industrial Systems for its Innovation Series™ drives. It belongs to the ATBA (Application I/O Terminal Board) series, is part of the G1 group, and represents revision level B (G1AB), which differs from the G1AA revision in terms of pin assignments for connectors J6 and J7, as well as the connector type for J7.

The primary function of the ATBA terminal board is to provide terminal block connections for all signals found on backplane connectors J6 and J7 of the IS200CABP Control Assembly Backplane Board (CABP). This board serves as the interface between the customer and the drive, routing signals from the backplane connectors to an easily accessible terminal strip, greatly simplifying field wiring and system integration. The ATBA board is DIN-rail mounted and is typically installed inside the control cabinet.

The IS200ATBAG1B board contains no fuses or adjustable hardware; its reliability relies entirely on external wiring and system design. The board provides all signal connections through a 60-position terminal block, supporting a wide variety of input and output types, including digital inputs, relay outputs, analog inputs, analog outputs, digital tachometer signals, potentiometer interfaces, and fault string interfaces. It is an indispensable interface component within the Innovation Series drive system.

This product is widely used in industrial drive control systems, particularly in applications where backplane signals need to be conveniently routed to field wiring terminals.

II. Key Functions

1. Centralized Signal Routing

The core function of the IS200ATBAG1B board is to route signals from the J6 and J7 connectors on the CABP backplane to a single 60-position terminal block. This design simplifies field wiring, avoids the complexity of directly accessing backplane connectors, and enhances system maintainability.

2. Support for Multiple Signal Types

The IS200ATBAG1B board supports the following signal types:

  • Digital Inputs: 6 channels (DI1-DI6), each with positive and negative terminals, suitable for differential or single-ended input.

  • Relay Outputs: 3 channels (RLY1-RLY3), each with normally open (NO), normally closed (NC), and common (COM) contacts.

  • Main Contactor Control: Provides normally open, normally closed, and common contacts for the main contactor pilot relay.

  • Fault String Interfaces: Supports system fault strings (115 V and 24 V) and local fault strings (115 V and 24 V), each with a common input terminal.

  • Solid-State Relay Driver: Provides an open-collector output for driving external solid-state relays.

  • Analog Inputs: 2 channels (AI1, AI2), each with positive and negative terminals.

  • Analog Outputs: 2 channels (AO1, AO2), each with positive and negative terminals.

  • Digital Tachometer Inputs: Supports digital tachometer A, B, and marker signals (DTA, DTB, DTM), each with positive and negative terminals.

  • Tachometer Power Supply: Provides power for digital tachometer encoders (DT_PSP, DT_PSN).

  • Potentiometer Interface: Provides positive and negative power terminals for an external potentiometer (POTP, POTN).

  • Isolated Power Supply: Provides isolated 24 V outputs (I24_1, I24_2) and their returns.

  • Feedback Sense Inputs: Provides positive and negative feedback sense inputs (SENSP, SENSN).

  • Shield Terminals: Provides connection points for analog signal shields and tachometer signal shields (ASH1, ASH2, TSH1, TSH2).

3. Electrical Isolation and Safety

The IS200ATBAG1B board is designed with electrical safety requirements in mind:

  • All signals on the J7 connector are rated for 50 V, 1 A maximum.

  • Most signals on the J6 connector are rated for 225 V, 1 A maximum.

  • Specific signals on J6 (such as relay contacts and contactor control signals) are rated for 176 V, 2 A maximum.

4. High Current Carrying Capacity

The terminal block accommodates #12 AWG stranded wire or two #16 AWG stranded wires, ensuring reliable connections in high-current applications. Current carrying capacity depends on the gauge of the conductors used in the wire harness.

5. DIN Rail Mounting

The IS200ATBAG1B board is designed for DIN rail mounting, eliminating the need for complex rack structures and allowing direct installation on standard DIN rails within control cabinets, simplifying the installation process.

III. Hardware Architecture

1. Board Structure

The IS200ATBAG1B board uses a standard printed circuit board structure and integrates:

V. Revision Differences Explanation

The main differences between the IS200ATBAG1B and the earlier G1A revision are:

  1. Different J7 Connector Type: The G1B uses a different connector type for J7 and is not compatible with the G1A.

  2. J6 Pin Reassignment: Three pins on the J6 connector have been reassigned.

  3. SSR Pin Status: On the G1B revision, the SSRN pin is not connected (NC).

  4. Signal Layout Adjustments: Signal positions on the J7 terminal block have been adjusted; for example, the G1AB revision does not have independent I24P/I24N pins on J7.

When replacing or upgrading, it is essential to confirm the compatibility of the board revision with the system configuration. GE ensures backward compatibility of replacement boards, but specific implementation should reference system documentation.

VI. Installation and Maintenance

1. Mounting Location

The IS200ATBAG1B board is typically mounted on a DIN rail inside the control cabinet, facilitating field wiring and maintenance.

2. Installation Steps

  1. Verify Power is Off: Ensure the drive has been de-energized and verify that no power exists on any circuits using high-voltage test equipment.

  2. Install DIN Rail: Ensure the DIN rail is correctly installed and grounded.

  3. Mount the Board: Snap the IS200ATBAG1B board onto the DIN rail and ensure it is securely fastened.

  4. Connect Cables: Connect the J6 and J7 cables from the CABP backplane to the corresponding connectors on the ATBA board.

  5. Field Wiring: According to the system drawings, connect field devices to the terminal block.

  6. Secure Cables: Use cable ducts or ties to secure cables and prevent loosening.

3. Removal Steps

  1. Verify Power is Off: Ensure the drive has been de-energized and verify that no power exists on any circuits.

  2. Label Cables: Label all cables with their terminal positions before removal to simplify reconnection.

  3. Loosen Terminal Screws: Use a screwdriver to loosen the terminal block screws and remove cables.

  4. Disconnect Connectors: Carefully disconnect the J6 and J7 cables (pull tabs gently if present).

  5. Remove the Board: Remove the board from the DIN rail.

4. Maintenance Recommendations

  • Periodic Inspection: Regularly check terminal screws for tightness to ensure reliable electrical connections.

  • Anti-Static Precautions: Always wear a grounded wrist strap when handling the board. Store the board in an anti-static bag when not in use.

  • Cleaning: Keep the board surface clean to prevent dust accumulation that could affect heat dissipation and insulation.

  • Spare Parts Management: It is recommended to keep at least one identical ATBA board on-site as a spare to minimize downtime in case of failure.

VII. Applications

The IS200ATBAG1B Application I/O Terminal Board is widely used in the following industrial scenarios:

  • Innovation Series Drives: As a standard component providing the user interface.

  • DC Drive Systems: Connecting digital inputs, relay outputs, analog feedback signals, etc.

  • Variable Frequency Drive Systems: Providing tachometer encoder interfaces and analog control interfaces.

  • Excitation Control Systems: Connecting fault string interfaces and contactor control signals.

  • Process Control Applications: Interfacing with PLCs or DCS systems via analog inputs and outputs.
