The DS200SHVMG1A is an SCR High Voltage M-Frame Interface Board designed by General Electric (GE) Industrial Control Systems for its M-frame drives. Belonging to the SHVM (SCR High Voltage M-Frame Interface Board) series, this board is part of the G1 group and serves as a critical interface component connecting the SCR power bridge of M-frame drives to the drive control system’s power supply boards.

The primary function of the SHVM high voltage interface board is to provide an interface for signals from an M-frame drive’s SCR bridge to the DCFB or SDCI Power Supply Board and the PCCA Power Connect Card. This board integrates multiple functions, including shunt signal isolation and conversion, AC current transformer attenuation, AC line voltage attenuation, and DC bridge voltage attenuation, ensuring that high-voltage side signals are safely and accurately transmitted to the control side. It is a core component for achieving precise control and reliable protection in M-frame drive systems.

The DS200SHVMG1A board is designed to meet the demands of high-voltage industrial drive applications and features the following characteristics:

  • Shunt Signal Isolation and Conversion: Converts ±500 mV shunt signals into 0 to 500 kHz differential frequency outputs, with isolator input circuits floating to bridge potential.

  • Selectable 10:1 Current Transformer Attenuation: Provides additional current attenuation capability via hardware jumpers when main line ACCT secondary current exceeds 144 mA.

  • AC Line Voltage Attenuation: Configurable attenuation based on main AC line voltage level (240-600 V or 601-1000 V).

  • DC Bridge Voltage Attenuation: Configurable attenuation for DC bus voltage feedback via hardware jumpers based on main AC line voltage.

  • Passive Design: No LEDs, fuses, testpoints, or switches; only configurable jumpers and connectors.

  • High Voltage Isolation: Board hardware floats at feedback voltage potential, ensuring safe isolation between high-voltage side and control side.

This product is widely used in M-frame high-voltage DC drive systems and high-power industrial drive control applications, particularly in industrial environments requiring high voltage and high current signal handling.

II. Key Functions

1. DC Bridge Shunt Isolator Circuits

The DS200SHVMG1A board includes DC positive (+) and DC negative (-) floating shunt isolator voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) circuits that convert shunt signals from the SCR bridge into frequency signals that can be processed by the control side. These circuits feature:

  • Input Range: -500 mV to +500 mV

  • Output Frequency: 0 to 500 kHz (differential frequency output)

  • Signal Isolation: Isolator input circuits float to bridge potential, achieving electrical isolation between the high-voltage side and the control side

  • Output Connection: Converted frequency signals are sent to the DCFB or SDCI Power Supply Board via IA1PL and IA2PL connectors

2. AC Current Transformer (ACCT) Attenuation

The DS200SHVMG1A board provides 10:1 current transformer (CT) attenuation for AC line currents (phase A and phase C) when required. This attenuation is jumper-selectable:

  • Attenuation Requirement: Attenuation is required when the main line ACCT secondary current exceeds 144 mA, as the CT burden resistors on the DCFB and SDCI Power Supply Boards are not rated to handle more than 144 mA.

  • Attenuation Selection: Jumper selection (JP1-JP8) determines whether 10:1 attenuation is enabled.

  • Bypass Condition: Attenuation should be bypassed when the main line ACCT secondary current is less than 144 mA.

Important Note: If 10:1 CT attenuation is used, compensation must be applied when setting the burden scaling switches on the SDCI or DCFB Power Supply Board.

3. AC Line Voltage Attenuators (L1, L2, L3)

The DS200SHVMG1A board provides AC line voltage attenuators to attenuate AC line voltage when required, based on the AC line voltage magnitude and generator field rating:

  • Bypass Condition: When the main AC line voltage is 240-600 V, attenuators should be bypassed.

  • Enable Condition: When the main AC line voltage is 601-1000 V, attenuators should be enabled.

  • Configuration Method: Jumper selection (JP9-JP17) determines whether attenuation is enabled or bypassed.

4. DC Bridge Voltage Attenuators (P1 and P2)

The DS200SHVMG1A board provides DC positive and DC negative voltage resistor string attenuators to attenuate DC voltage when required, based on field voltage ratings:

  • Function: Configurable jumpers scale the DC bus voltage feedback.

  • Setting Basis: Jumper settings are based on the nominal main AC input voltage.

  • Bypass Condition: When the main AC line voltage is 240-600 V, voltage resistor string attenuators should be bypassed.

  • Enable Condition: When the main AC line voltage is 601-1000 V, voltage resistor string attenuators should be enabled.

5. Signal Conversion and Transmission

The DS200SHVMG1A board converts, isolates, and attenuates various signals from the SCR bridge and transmits them to the control-side power supply boards and power connect card via multiple connectors:

  • Shunt Signals: Sent to the DCFB/SDCI board via IA1PL and IA2PL connectors

  • AC Current Signals: Sent to the DCFB/SDCI board via the 1CPL connector

  • Power Synchronization Signals: Receives 25 kHz power from the power supply board via the SQPL connector

The 17 configurable jumpers (JP1-JP17) on the SHVM board are used for attenuation selection:

JumperFunctionSetting Description
JP1-JP810:1 CT attenuation selectionIN position (attenuation enabled) when main line ACCT secondary current exceeds 144 mA; OUT position (attenuation bypassed) when less than 144 mA
JP9-JP17AC line voltage/DC bridge voltage attenuation selectionIN position (attenuation enabled) when main AC line voltage is 601-1000 V; OUT position (attenuation bypassed) when 240-600 V

Important Notes:

  • If 10:1 CT attenuation is used, compensation must be applied when setting the burden scaling switches on the SDCI or DCFB Power Supply Board.

  • Jumper settings must match the actual voltage levels of the field application.

  • When replacing an SHVM board, all jumpers on the new board must be set to the same positions as on the board being replaced.

2. Attenuator Selection Guidelines

Voltage LevelAC Line Voltage AttenuationDC Bridge Voltage Attenuation10:1 CT Attenuation
240-600 VBypass (OUT)Bypass (OUT)Based on ACCT secondary current
601-1000 VEnable (IN)Enable (IN)Based on ACCT secondary current

3. ACCT Secondary Current Calculation

The ACCT secondary current (in mA) is approximately calculated as:
Ict (mA) = (1 pu rated current × 1000) / Combined CT turns ratio

When Ict ≥ 144 mA, 10:1 CT attenuation is required; when Ict < 144 mA, attenuation should be bypassed.

VI. Installation and Maintenance

1. Mounting Location

The DS200SHVMG1A board is mounted on the drive’s SCR assembly, secured with six nylon standoffs and nylon nuts. As a high-voltage interface board, the board hardware floats at feedback voltage potential.
